Epoch of Dragons: Convergence, Prologue

Published on 25 September 2023 at 18:58

We didn’t always live underground. It wasn’t our nature. We were born of the sea and the sky, wild beasts more powerful than any other creature. We were dragons. We were the gods of the world.

And our pride led to our destruction.

We fought back of course. We refused to go quietly, or to even admit that we were losing. Truth is, we had already lost long before, when we decided we would live among humans. When we said we would live in our caves and them in their towns, we gave up our status above them.

We equalized ourselves, and no one was happy about it. Someone had to be the gods. Humans and dragons both felt it was their right, that they were superior.

In the end, it didn’t matter who was superior. We were stronger and faster and had more power at our disposal.

But humans are the ones strutting about in broad daylight while we hide in caves, only emerging on the darkest nights.

How could they have possibly beaten us, you wonder?

            I’m so glad you asked.
